- I made hats from Premier's Bloom Chunky yarn for all the female members of my family last December, and my brother-in-law asked if I could make him a hat "but not flowery, like camo or something." So I went on a search for a "camo-like" colorway and found Premier's Puzzle yarn in the colorway Maze. It was a nice ombre effect with many different green colors. Then I designed a simple men's hat to my brother-in-law's desires (big enough for his big head with long ribbing so he could fold it double over his ears and keep them warm when out ice fishing). My sister asked if I would make hats for her grandsons, and this was the point I discovered that the Loops & Threads Barcelona Big! yarn from Michael's had the exact same gram/yard count, had more colors, didn't split as easily, and was cheaper than the Premier Puzzle line, so I got a bunch of that too. I eventually ended up making hats from different colorways in the same pattern for both of his sons, his oldest son's husband, all three of his youngest son's boys, both of my sons, and both of my brothers. I have even made a few that don't have owners yet, but I had a bad cold last month and now have a bad case of cellulitis and the hat is a super easy pattern that I don't have to pay much attention to.

I found that, especially after wear, the hats were stretching more than I had anticipated. So I decided to rework the pattern using smaller needles and changing needle sizes from the ribbing to the body rather than increasing the stitch count. Hopefully, this will help alleviate the over-stretching problem.
